Saturday of Service
Saturday of Service is an event where Greek Life partners with The Center for Civic Engagement to coordinate on-campus and off-campus service opportunities. Many Greek chapters adopt group projects, although Greek Life members can also volunteer individually. This is a day for all of Greek Life to unite around service and philanthropy and benefit the Cleveland community. Service opportunities cater to a wide variety of interests including projects such as tutoring youth at The Saturday Tutoring Program, helping clean up local nature centers and volunteering at the Cleveland Food Bank.
2,000,000 Minutes Goals and Guidelines
Starting with the 2011-2012 school year, there was a major change to the Service program from the Greek Life Office of Case Western Reserve University. In the past, the Greek Life Office has set a goal for each chapter to complete a certain number of service and philanthropy hours throughout the year and complete one full year's worth of service and philanthropy (365 days) across the community.
However, starting in the 2011-2012 academic year, the goal was altered to complete 1,000,000 minutes of service. Later, after achieving this goal, the bar for our community was raised to 2,000,000 minutes in the 2014-2015 academic year! There will then be a separate goal per chapter—determined by the number of its members—to raise through philanthropy events.
2,000,000 MINUTES OF SERVICE
Only service hours will count toward this goal. These hours come from face-to-face volunteering, constructing items to donate, and other such events. The hour goal for each chapter is based on the distribution of 2,000,000 minutes across the Greek community by chapter size.
The philanthropy goal will be a fixed amount for each chapter to try and achieve through their individual philanthropies as well as participating in other chapter events. This goal also will be determined by chapter size and the money goal will be directly correlated to money raised.
Please Note: events will be judged on a case-by-case basis as to whether they qualify toward the philanthropy goal or the service goal.
Finally, please remember that the 2,000,000 Minutes of Service is a goal. Our community has been well respected for the effort given forth each year by Greeks to complete and often exceed the service goals set in previous years. With so many chapters easily completing their goals, it is time to take on a larger challenge.

The Greek Life Office tracks individual chapter progress for both service hours and philanthropic efforts through information submitted to the Office by each chapter. This can be seen here.
